Volcano Eruption Forecast

According to a recent report from ScienceDaily Earth, scientists have developed a new detection method called 'Jerk' that can dramatically improve volcanic eruption forecasts. By utilizing a single broadband seismometer, the system can detect subtle ground movements caused by magma pushing underground, often hours before an eruption begins. Tested at the Piton de la Fournaise volcano, the tool successfully predicted 92% of eruptions between 2014 and 2023, sometimes providing up to eight hours of warning. This breakthrough could have significant implications for the mining industry, particularly in regions with volcanic activity, such as Norway's Trøndelag region, where mineral exploration and mining operations could benefit from enhanced eruption forecasting.
